    X-Plane photoscenery

Post by jaydor on Tue May 02, 2017 9:07 am

X-Plane 11 photoscenery French Alps Courchevel, made using G2XPL and GoogleEarth tiles.  The tile was made at LOD17:

Autogen was reduced to nil to take away the jagged road layout of XP, the downside is no nightlights.  But who flies the Alps at night?

I have produced a G2XPL tutorial for those interested. You can get it here:

it certainly looks better without the autogen , indistinguishable from FSX now

as in all things I wanted to compare Jaydors pics with what is available in FSX and it makes interesting viewing, initially i thought the x plane images were too bare so i fired up fsx with france VFR and courchevell and this is what we got

ok so far so good these did look better than what was available on XP

yes the runway does slope like a ski jump and the mountains look greener than xp

but then i started to remove france vfr and use photoscenery

and it was not a happy marriage

there was a strong contrast from the resident courchevel and the photoscenery yes the peaks were great but the mixture not very good

so france vfr with courchevel works well but not with photoscenery

so yes the courchevel scenery mixed well with france vfr and worked well with a sloping runway etc but was it as realistic to look at as X Plane??? just a pity the x plane imagery was taken during the dry season

Have to say I think the xp scenery looks more like the real thing, a little bit sterile, but better than fsx , i will never forget the first time i flew a navajo into courcheval , i was sweating cobblers with a family of 5 behind me, in the end the landing was a non event, but certainly made one sit up and pay attention big time, i flew back 10 days later and collected them and there was a load of snow on the runway
