    Orbx Innsbruck

Post by britfrog on Fri Apr 28, 2017 10:52 am

Some years ago I was a great supporter of Orbx products and had nearly all their Australian airports which were excellent especially Melbourne and Brisbane, however they chose to no longer make their excellent international airports which I felt was sad. So they went into the PNW and made /still make some excellent small airports, however for me the "spell" of being immersed in their small airports was spoilt the moment you left the immediate area of the airport and flew into comic book stock FSX scenery. To counter this they created a trio of "global" programs which were nearly as bad as the stock fsx scenery (my regions shows that I live in a desert area with camel thorn trees) and slowed my p.c. to a crawl so having had one of these programs bought for me it was binned. Having binned the global scenery I then binned all PNW and concentrated on operations in Europe. I could never understand why they did not use photoscenery once away from their airports. it would allow one to remain immersed. Why go through all the cost of making an imaginary world when the real world is at you fingertips ? it seemed crazy to me. I kept their UK products because with a bit of fiddling you can make them sit well enough in photoscenery.
The announcement of their intent to create Innsbruck , one of my favorites, was tempered  by the warning that one had to have at least one global product, which did not bode well, however yesterday I was able to see this new airport and i have to say it is the best thing they have ever done, bar none, not only do the frame rates stay at a very decent level but it also sits in the Austria scenery perfectly and it doesnt appear to need a global product either , well, i could not see anything missing at any rate . There are now at least 3 renditions of this airport availale , the elderley version done some years ago by aerosoft, which to be honest still stands up well even though it is only really the airport, the recent  just sim version which was a lot  better and now the Orbx version which knocks them all into a cocked hat to be honest so i enclose a few pics for you to enjoy

I had intended this to be a photographic comparison between our own HD photoscenery of the area and Orbx there was no competition hence no photos of our photoscenery and i never thought i would say that !!

None of your photo's are showing because you will still insist on using rustbucket. Get over to imgur, so that we can all see what you are on about.

This is what we are seeing.

I knew the fs2 version was imminent, but the problem with aerofly is that as pretty as it is only about 4 gauges in the cockpit work however apparently it is absolutely unreal with occulus rift or similar VR goggles

Jaydor the only problem you have is win 10 lol!

Thanks for the screen shots, Nigel - very impressive, Mate!

I would say that it's almost as good as Las Vegas in DCS, but that would sound sarky - so I won't!!

    Cheers - Dai. Cool

    Just as an aside,
Many years ago my then boss and i flew freight into Innsbruck, it was my first visit, and after we had unloaded , the airfield manager came over to us and asked us would we fly the new published approaches to verify that they were feasable for small a/c. So after ascertaining that it would mean several hours of flying to cover all the various possibilities available we negotiated free fuel plus a nights hotel room. and so we loaded on 5 ramp attendants to get somewhere near max weight, and started off in what was reasonably marginal visibility with cloud cover. However we did the job and it is still these parameters which are used by GA aircraft to this day!!
It was rather nice the next morning to arrive at the a/c for the flight back to blighty, to find it had not only been filled up overnight, but 2 bottles of schnapps in the baggege compartment.
