FSET Scenery at 0.25 M/PIX High Resoltion

Post by G-GMDH on Thu Nov 26, 2015 8:32 pm

This is what FSET can do at 0.25 M/PIX which is the lowest I can go without losing the images in VE. You can get even closer in GE.

I did this only as a test of quality as it generates very large files but useful for doing airfields to add to existing scenery.

I'm flying at 500 feet over EGFE. You can see the power cables in this picture.

It Looks very sharp indeed. But its also a bit dark. Its early morning or late afternoon autumn photos. Have you tried with another setting in the .ini file?

I cant remember the name, but I´m sure you know what I mean. Rolling Eyes

having seen mikes pics i decided to experiment myself

these pics were taken at -3 whatever that works out at, I tried -4 but the p.c threw a wobbly and said i did not have enough memory ,16gb's not enough!!! jeesh

so the first pic is at 500 feet  AGL

as this looked pin sharp i went lower to 300feet over a firends house with a polluted pool

so went lower to 200 feet and here it just started to get pixellated

the dead end of town at 200 feet

whilst mulling over these photos  and their clarity , it made me realise that these are public pics, imagine the definition of the military ones !!!

Well Nigel you bet me to it as I was just going to upload some GE images of EGFE at 0.25M/PIX so that's minus 1 in FSET resolution download setting.

So that puts these to shame looking at yours of France at minus 3 so lets do the maths......

    FSET download resolution setting 0 = 0.5 M/PIX

                                               -1 = 0.25 M/PIX

                                              - 2 = 0.125 M/PIX

                                              - 3 = 0.0625 M/PIX
         THAT'S PRACTICALLY ON THE GROUND

PS THOSE PICS OF FRANCE ARE INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it was only a test area of a few square miles and each LOD13 square was about 44k in size. I have already done the whole region at 0 , but am now getting tempted to do it at -3, just to see how it feels to fly over it.

here are some pics  at -2 for whatever reason fset threw a wobbly and would not scan this area at -3 due to "memory problems"

The first shows a beach at 250 feet check out the depth of the waves near the wing, however a bit blurry

and the marina which is just a little pixelated

so I climbed up to 500 feet for this pic

and finally to 800 feet for this pic of the market place

However I think that 0 is the highest quality that is practical except for exceptional situations

does simming get any more realistic than this?

Those are very impressive images, pity the professionals cannot come up with this sort of high quality scenery. It just goes to show that with FSET and top notch satellite images what can be done with this amazing software.

    Cheers, M

this pic is of the same beach and marina taken by my son as i flew some friends around the region in a navajo , with a good camera, you can hardly see anything, so i worked on it a lot and came up with the second pic. the pics that i took from the sim are not retouched at all!!, so all we need are some views from a tangent and we have full 3D
