MORE TESTS WITH FSET HOME MADE SCENERY PART 3

Post by G-GMDH on Mon Oct 26, 2015 12:13 pm

To answer your question Nigel I did a test area in Florida using FSET resolution of 0.5M/PIX and satellite images courtesy of Virtual Earth. The left side of the picture is 100% compression and the right side is 80% compression settings in the FSET ini folder.

They are not very good pictures but I cannot see the "join" between the two sets of compression values.

Additional picture looking across the "join".

So it would appear that there are no problems mixing the 100% and 80% compression bgl in FSX scenery.

    Cheers, M

I have mixed 90 and 100% files and cant "find" the place where I did so. Smile

Its interesting how this little forum is becomming one of the most interesting spots when it comes to FSET.. Well done.

Thanks DB it is a very good forum with great members on board and yes I enjoy very much doing these tests in FSET to help and encourage others to make their own scenery.

i agree with you DB we are lucky to have this place

Mike I fully accept your findings and am pretty well sold on using the 80% setting however surely you must see some difference, if you zoom into where the join is, say to a point where the scenery starts to de-pixellate, no? if you cant then I suppose you will be re-scanning the UK to regain a whole load of hard drive space Smile

Hi Nigel, I cannot see any join or overlaps in my test scenery either in GE or VE. Im sold on 80% compression as it would have saved me a shed full of HD space, too late now mind!!

However the thought did cross my mind to redo ALL of my scenery using 80% and then happily it did pass!!!!???

I just wonder is there some clever software out on the web that could compress the bgl files we already have done at 100%?

    Cheers, M

AFAIK it is not possible to edit or alter the contents of a photoscenery bgl once compiled.  you would need to recompile the original source material with different settings Sad K
