MORE TESTS AND UPDATES IN FSET FOR HOME MADE SCENERY PART 1

Post by G-GMDH on Sun Oct 25, 2015 5:11 pm

I have tested FSET with the default compression at 100% and my updated ini file with 80%.

The test area I chose was Caldy Island off the Tenby coast in Pembrokeshire. Images are courtesy of Virtual Earth and FSET set to the default resolution of 1M/PIX

    DEFAULT 100% at 700 feet

    DEFAULT 100% at 1400 feet

    DEFAULT 100% SATELLITE VIEW

    80% AT 700 FEET

    80% AT 1400 FEET

    80% SATELLITE VIEW

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I see no significant differences in the images however the savings in hard drive storage are incredible plus a lot less processing of the scenery within FSX.

    DEFAULT 100% = 5.4 MB

    UPDATED TO 80% = 0.996 MB

    Cheers, M

    Yes, i agree totally.
Thats why i started using 90%. I may go down to 80 or 85%.
IMHO, the only really important factor in FSET is the quality of the images that we download, and unfortunately that is out of our control. If the image is good, then the scenery will be good with less than 100% and if the image is poor, then not even 500% wil change that.

A very interesting thread, i wonder how it will affect images where the original definition was not as good as these

Do atest. There are many places with poor or not so good images. Embarassed
I have done so where I live (Huelva, Spain) where images are not bad, but far from the quality of Denmark. I tried with 90 and 100% and I couldnt see any difference.

    Cool.
I dont live Huelva city, but I know it very well and its easy to find on the map and besides, there is an interesting riverdelta there.
I have downloaded freeware 1m/pix scenery that i didnt like and i've made test with bing tiles that i didnt like. I will tets with google tiles and see how that is, but i have my doubts.

MSE Spain, I must say I am not impressed at 3000', but I usually fly high.

James just added these pictures to show a test area I did this morning with FSET around Huelva, Spain at 1500 feet.

Looks nice on my phone...any autogen yet? And...Have any of you chaps played with the cfg settings for FSET to see what kinds of differences you can get with water/land transitions yet? K

Thanks a lot Jaydor. Its highly appreciated. afro
The place is called "Ria de Huelva" and is complicated to do. Thats for sure.

Those MSE shots are actually pretty poor. I actually think I could do that part better myself in an hour or so. As Nigel says, I dont think there´s any watermask and thats amateurish for a payware addon. There´s a freeware Andalucia photoscenery out there, where the "Ria de Huelva" is done a lotter better and with more atention to detail, but it has a weird green hue to it that I cant stand and the image quality is the same as this: mediocre.

Well, noone flies there so maybe MSE thought they could get away with this. No fsx airports between Seville and Faro. Microsoft didnt care much about most of Europe and certainly not for regions in the outskirts.

Oh yeah. an explanation about water/land transitions would be very nice. Maybe we could send it to MegaSceneryEarth as well.

Mike that is amazing @1500 and looks quite different to Nigel's set. You both must have used different sources. Nigel's looks almost like MSE.

So, Nigel and Mike, which tiles do you use respectively?
    Google and Bing?

DB and James, the test area of Spain I did this morning using FSET with 1M/PIX resolution and the satellite images are courtesy of Virtual Earth and the FSET ini compression now permanently set at a value of 80%

The test area is approximately 100 square nautical miles produced just one bgl file for the FSX scenery library.

    Cheers, M

PS The FSET AREA SNAP = OFF

Gents, can I suggest that perhaps we could have a thread where we post kml files of areas that we can share, download and use in FSET to create scenery and maybe play around with? I'm more than happy to share mine Smile

Woah... I have deleted all my Denmark KML files... pale
When creating DK, almost half of the areas have watermask, so a ton of kml files.
