I'm using 362.1 MB of 10.0 GB on Box right now. I guess I could handle 7.5 GB, Mike?

Not sure what my Google Cloud limits are - I'll check.

    HNY!

    Cheers - Dai. Cool

    Hi Biggles Mike

My Google account, associated with my @gmail.com email, is 2 GB of 17GB.

I guess you could get the same if you applied for same.

Both Box and Google Drive limits can be extended for $$/month...

Do we at SimHaven have the resources to pay for such cloud storage?

Would it be to our benefit (non financial)?

    Need more input...

    Cheers - Dai. Cool

    Cheers Mike.

PS Just found Degoo who offer a FREE 100 GB service, uploading as I type.

"The word 'dago' is a derivative of the Spanish name 'Diego', which means 'James'. It was originally coined in the 17th century by British sailors to indicate Spanish or Portuguese people, especially sailors. Despite the hispanic origin of the word, in the 19th century the word 'dago' became more commonly used in the USA as a derogatory term for Italians, due to the large immigration from that country. However, it is still used to indicate Spanish or Portuguese people as well, but rarely the French."

    lol!

Its a crazy world out there, China offer up to 36 TB yes TB FREE on their cloud storage services, unfortunately I don't speak Chinese! Perhaps the forum management should think of registering and offering a "Simhaven Scenery Library" so that forum members can share scenery?

Unfortunately what "kills" all of this is the very slow upload speeds capped by our internet providers at 1MBS which is absolute rubbish. I have just given up trying to upload around 5 GB of Malta HD scenery. Back to the drawing board? PS Just been using an on-line calculator and to upload my 100 GB of scenery with my 1 MBS would take around 10 days, IF I had a speed of 100 MBS it would take 2.5 hours.

I have a plan, take my portable HD with 100 GB of scenery over to our IP office and get them to upload to a cloud of my choice using their super high speed.

    Mike,
    I have a 128GB usb stick.
I am happy to send it to you and include a return jiffy bag and postage cost. When I receive it back another member could send me a jiffy bag with return postage. Having copied the data the stick could be returned and the process repeated.

An alternate method I or someone else sends you a USB stick for the data to be copied. You return it and two others send "stick holder 1" a usb stick. In turn those two copy two stick back to other members.

You end up with a reverse pyramid whereby many copies are made for very little expenditure in time and money.

Actually, I think our Tony's idea about sending sticks is great - Thanks, mate!

Naturally, we'd all have to install a few TB's of SSD, but it'd cut the 'download' times...

... and keep our posties in work!

    Sorted.

    Cheers - Dai. Cool

P.S. I was serious about the sticks...

    Hi Tony and the gang,

Yes I agree it is a good idea. Our postal service is crap, so allow 2 to 4 weeks to get here and 3 weeks return to the UK, I joke you not, that's assuming they have fed the donkeys!!!!

I will have to check with our local post office the return costs of a small packet sending it "International Recorded" would be best.

    Cheers Mike.

The idea to use a USB storage stick to share the scenery is a good one but on reflection the time scale involved, 3 weeks from here to the UK, a week or more for the recipient to get around to downloading the files, amid other jobs that hold greater priority, then more postage and time to the next person who'd like a copy and so on. It begins to seem all a bit drawn out and it could take as long as 6 months or more for the one at the end of the queue to get the key.

Instead what I propose to do is donate the files to my Italian contact who owns his own web site as he can upload to his " storage cloud"  and then anyone who is interested can download when its convenient for them and not have to worry about time and postal mishaps with the stick.

At the site http://italyphotoreal.weebly.com is offered all the European photo scenery F.O.C but, if possible, asks for a donation for the Peter Pan Hospice Foundation in Rome for children's families to have accommodation and transport while cancer treatment is given, as a small thank you for all of his time making and processing scenery.

    https://www.wantedinrome.com/news/romes-peter-pan-charity-celebrates-20-years.html

A very worth while cause and I feel it also helps give something back as when I started on this all consuming hobby this was the first site to offer free photo scenery to get me under way. What goes around....
